I know it can feel like an extra step — but this quick check helps keep the website safe, fast, and available for everyone.
This site offers high-quality images for free download. Unfortunately, automated programs (often called “bots”) sometimes try to download large numbers of files all at once. Unlike real visitors, these programs can request hundreds or even thousands of large files in minutes.
When that happens, it can cause real problems:
- Slower downloads for everyone
- Higher server costs that make the site more expensive to run
- Temporary outages or errors
- Content being copied and reposted without permission
This simple check helps ensure that downloads are being requested by real people — not automated systems scraping large amounts of content.
It only takes a moment to complete, but it makes a big difference. By confirming you're human, you’re helping to:
- Keep downloads fast and reliable
- Protect the images and resources
- Prevent abuse that can disrupt the site
- Maintain a fair experience for all users
I really appreciate your patience :-) This small step helps to continue providing high-quality content while keeping the website running smoothly for everyone :-)
The long version
I want to explain a little more about why this step is necessary.
This website provides high-quality images that are meant to be accessed by real people. Unfortunately, there are automated tools on the internet designed to copy websites by downloading large amounts of content very quickly. These tools can request hundreds or even thousands of large files in a short period of time — far more than any normal visitor ever would.
When that happens, it creates several challenges behind the scenes.
First, large files like high-resolution images ZIP files, documents, and other downloadable resources require significant server power and bandwidth. When automated systems try to grab them in bulk, it can slow down the site for everyone else. Pages may load more slowly, downloads can stall, and in extreme cases, the site can temporarily go offline.
Second, heavy automated downloading increases hosting and bandwidth costs. Running a website that serves large files isn’t free, and unexpected traffic spikes caused by scraping can become expensive very quickly. Using a CAPTCHA helps reduce that abuse so I can keep the site available without increasing costs or limiting access for legitimate users.
There’s also the issue of content misuse. A lot of time, effort, and care goes into creating and organizing the files available here. Automated scraping makes it easy for others to copy and repost that content elsewhere without permission. While no protection is perfect, adding a human verification step makes large-scale copying much harder.
I don’t use CAPTCHAs to create friction or inconvenience you. In fact, I try to keep them limited and only place them where they meaningfully help protect the site — especially around large downloads or on pages that cause increased server load, such as calculators and generators. For a real visitor, it’s a small moment — in fact, the CAPTCHA used here is often smart enough to figure out you're a real user on its own, so you don't even have to complete it. But for automated systems, it’s a significant barrier.
By completing the CAPTCHA, you’re helping to:
- Keep the website fast and responsive
- Prevent automated bulk downloading
- Control server and bandwidth costs
- Protect content from mass copying
- Maintain reliable access for genuine users
It’s a small step, but it plays an important role in keeping this site sustainable and available.
Thank you for your understanding — and for being a real human ;-)
