Elden Ring: Erdtree Burial Watchdog (Cliffbottom Catacombs) Boss Fight

Erdtree Burial Watchdog is in the lowest tier of bosses in Elden Ring, Field Bosses, and is the main boss of the Cliffbottom Catacombs dungeon. Like most lesser bosses in the game, this one is optional in the sense that you do not need to kill it in order to advance the main story.

As you probably know, bosses in Elden Ring are divided into three tiers. From lowest to highest: Field Bosses, Greater Enemy Bosses and finally Demigods and Legends.

Erdtree Burial Watchdog is in the lowest tier, Field Bosses, and is the main boss of the Cliffbottom Catacombs dungeon. Like most lesser bosses in the game, this one is optional in the sense that you do not need to kill it in order to advance the main story.

If you think this boss looks familiar it’s because you’ve probably seen it before. This type of boss is re-used in several dungeons with only minor variations and if you’ve watched any of my previous videos with this boss-type, you know that it’s very difficult for me to get through it without making a small rant about it being called a dog when it’s obviously a cat. I’ll try to avoid it this time, although I feel like I’ve already started a little bit ;-)

Anyway, this cat-like dog (apparently) appears to be made of stone and really likes to jump on you with all its weight. Which is another reason why it’s cat-like, but enough about that.

It can also breathe fire and seems particularly fond of doing so while someone innocent like me is standing right in harm’s way. I’ll admit that breathing fire is generally not associated with cats, but except this one time when my dog stole a particularly spicy piece of chili-flavored candy by accident and then proceeded to lick itself where dogs do, I don’t think it’s associated much with dogs either. Howling after eating chili candies and licking one’s unmentionables is though, but this boss doesn’t do that. And no, you shouldn’t feed chilies or candy to your dog on purpose, it’s not good for them and they may need veterinary care afterwards.

As if the fire breathing and jumping on people while being made of stone wasn’t bad enough, this boss also wields what appears to be a very large and heavy mace and it really really likes to whack people like me over the head with it.

This was the first boss I killed after having been away from the game for a couple of weeks due to reasons and I’ll admit that my reflexes were very out of shape, even more than usual. It almost looks like I’m waiting for the boss to whack me over the head with the mace. I kinda resent it for not hitting me harder when it had the chance ;-)

Is it a cat? Is it a dog? I’ll get back to that later.
