Elden Ring: Stray Mimic Tear (Hidden Path to the Haligtree) Boss Fight

Stray Mimic Tear is in the lowest tier of bosses in Elden Ring, Field Bosses, and is the main boss of the Hidden Path to the Haligtree dungeon between the Grand Lift of Rold and the Consecrated Snowfield. Like most lesser bosses in the game, defeating it is optional in the sense that it is not required in order to progress the main story.
As you probably know, bosses in Elden Ring are divided into three tiers. From lowest to highest: Field Bosses, Greater Enemy Bosses and finally Demigods and Legends.

Similar to the Mimic Tear fought back in Nokron, this one will duplicate your character at the beginning of the fight, so you will essentially be fighting a copy of yourself. Because of that, everybody is going to have a different experience and it’s hard to give specific tips about how to fight it.
However, if you find that you’re having trouble fighting this copy of yourself, consider that it will copy you with everything you have equipped at the beginning of the fight, but if you change your equipment during the fight, it will not copy that. So you could start the fight naked and then quickly put on your gear in the beginning of the fight to make it easier to defeat.
I didn’t do that, and I still managed to beat it without a lot of trouble. It would also have been upsetting if the game was better at playing my character than me.
And now for the usual boring details about my character. I play as a mostly Dexterity build. My melee weapon is the Guardian’s Swordspear with Keen affinity and Thunderbolt Ash of War. My shield is the Great Turtle Shell, which I mostly wear for the stamina recovery. I was level 149 when this video was recorded, which I think is a bit high for this content generally, but since this boss is a copy of my character, I don’t think my level matters. I’m always looking for the sweet spot where it’s not mind-numbing easy mode, but also not so difficult that I will be stuck on the same boss for hours ;-)
