Jori, Elder Inquisitor is in the middle tier of bosses in Elden Ring, Greater Enemy Bosses, and is the end boss of the Darklight Catacombs dungeon in the Land of Shadow. He is an optional boss in the sense that he does not need to be defeated in order to progress the main story of the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, but he must be defeated to access the Abyssal Woods area.

Elden Ring: Jori, Elder Inquisitor (Darklight Catacombs) Boss Fight (SOTE)

As you probably know, bosses in Elden Ring are divided into three tiers. From lowest to highest: Field Bosses, Greater Enemy Bosses and finally Demigods and Legends.

Jori, Elder Inquisitor is in the middle tier, Greater Enemy Bosses, and is the end boss of the Darklight Catacombs dungeon in the Land of Shadow. He is an optional boss in the sense that he does not need to be defeated in order to progress the main story of the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, but he must be defeated to access the Abyssal Woods area.

So, after braving through a rather long and windy dungeon, I came across this really grumpy wizard-type guy called Jori. He would summon help, shoot me with magic, and teleport away when I tried to hit him back. In other words, the notorious trifecta of annoyances.

Fortunately, I can always rely on Black Knife Tiche to help lay some pain on annoying bosses. That didn’t prevent him from teleporting though and if you’ve watched some of my previous videos you probably know how I feel about that and that it sometimes makes me go off into lengthy rants about made-up vacuum cleaner companies, but I’ll try to avoid that today. Let’s just say that teleporting bosses suck.

As good luck would have it, I have been running around these lands for many many hours, so I’m in excellent shape and therefore able to keep up with the teleporting boss with only a light jog. But then he just summoned some spirits of his own, which also sucked. It seems that they disappear after a few seconds though, so just run in a circle around them and try not to get hit too much.

The magic he fires at innocent Tarnished people (who are definitely not there to kill him and plunder his corpse) can be difficult to avoid at range, because it covers a very broad area. It can be rolled through, but I found it easier to avoid when close to him – which was very convenient, as my katanas are also way more effective when I’m close to the target.

And now for the usual boring details about my character. I play as a mostly Dexterity build. My melee weapons are the Rivers of Blood and the Uchigatana with Keen affinity. I was level 216 and Scadutree Blessing 16 when this video was recorded, which I think is reasonable for this boss. I’m always looking for the sweet spot where it’s not mind-numbing easy mode, but also not so difficult that I will be stuck on the same boss for hours ;-)
