Elden Ring: Count Ymir, Mother of Fingers (Cathedral of Manus Metyr) Boss Fight (SOTE)

Count Ymir, Mother of Fingers is in the lowest tier of bosses in Elden Ring, Field Bosses, and is found in the Cathedral of Manus Metyr. He starts out as a non-hostile NPC and vendor, but becomes hostile at a certain point in his questline. He is an optional boss in the sense that He does not need to be defeated in order to progress the main story of the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion.

As you probably know, bosses in Elden Ring are divided into three tiers. From lowest to highest: Field Bosses, Greater Enemy Bosses and finally Demigods and Legends.

Count Ymir, Mother of Fingers is in the lowest tier, Field Bosses, and is found in the Cathedral of Manus Metyr. He starts out as a non-hostile NPC and vendor, but becomes hostile at a certain point in his questline. He is an optional boss in the sense that He does not need to be defeated in order to progress the main story of the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion.

So, after having been tricked into running errands for a certain annoying count and even disposing of his grotesque cellar-pet, I returned to the cathedral only to find him in a foul mood and ready to fight. Well, considering who exactly it was who got tricked into the nasty cellar and put on extermination duty, I was in a foul mood too and more than willing to oblige his request for combat.

He certainly had some nasty tricks up his sleeve, but he was a much less formidable opponent than the other mother of fingers in the basement. But the fact that a fight isn’t difficult has never prevented me from screwing it up anyway, and since it had to take place in a cathedral, I of course tripped over some furniture and got stuck behind a pillar. In the end, I was actually surprised that I won.

And now for the usual boring details about my character. I play as a mostly Dexterity build. My melee weapons are the Rivers of Blood and the Uchigatana with Keen affinity. I was level 214 and Scadutree Blessing 15 when this video was recorded, which I think is reasonable for this boss. I’m always looking for the sweet spot where it’s not mind-numbing easy mode, but also not so difficult that I will be stuck on the same boss for hours ;-)
