Elden Ring: Ulcerated Tree Spirit (Giants' Mountaintop Catacombs) Boss Fight

Ulcerated Tree Spirit is in the lowest tier of bosses in Elden Ring, Field Bosses, and is the end boss of the Giants’ Mountaintop Catacombs dungeon in Mountaintops of the Giants. Like most lesser bosses in the game, this one is optional and does not need to be defeated in order to progress the main story.

As you probably know, bosses in Elden Ring are divided into three tiers. From lowest to highest: Field Bosses, Greater Enemy Bosses and finally Demigods and Legends.

Ulcerated Tree Spirit is in the lowest tier, Field Bosses, and is the end boss of the Giants’ Mountaintop Catacombs dungeon in Mountaintops of the Giants. Like most lesser bosses in the game, this one is optional and does not need to be defeated in order to progress the main story.

Getting to this boss involves going through a rather long and confusing dungeon where I true to my usual complete lack of sense of direction got lost, confused, and frustrated several times, so by the time I reached the boss I was admittedly in a foul mood and just wanted to take it out on something. Well, something else than all the annoying imps, warrior jars and burial watchdogs (who still look like cats) that had fouled my mood in the first place. With that in mind, the boss actually came in quite handy when it volunteered to be at the receiving end of a righteous beating.

These Tree Spirit type bosses have always annoyed me, with their zooming around, biting my sweet behind whenever my back is turned, and exploding when I try to poke them, so in order to not postpone the inevitable for longer than needed, I called in my gal pal Black Knife Tiche for some backup. She served her purpose beautifully, trivializing the boss to the extent where I myself did not take any damage at all. I didn’t even have to mention the need to spare my own tender flesh. Engvall could really have learned something here ;-)

When the boss is dead, don’t forget to loot the glowing chest in the room. It contains a Deathroot that can be fed to the Beast Clergyman over in Caelid if you’re in the mood for enabling his constant fixation on stuffing his face ;-)

And now for the usual boring details about my character. I play as a mostly Dexterity build. My melee weapon is the Guardian’s Swordspear with Keen affinity and Sacred Blade Ash of War. My shield is the Great Turtle Shell, which I mostly wear for the stamina recovery. I was level 139 when this video was recorded, which I think is a bit high, but it’s the level I’ve gotten to organically at this point in the game. I’m always looking for the sweet spot where it’s not mind-numbing easy mode, but also not so difficult that I will be stuck on the same boss for hours ;-)
