Elden Ring: Deathbird (Scenic Isle) Boss Fight

Deathbird is in the lowest tier of bosses in Elden Ring, Field Bosses, and is found outdoors near the Scenic Isle area in Liurnia of the Lakes. Like most lesser bosses in the game, this one is optional in the sense that you do not need to kill it in order to advance the main story.

As you probably know, bosses in Elden Ring are divided into three tiers. From lowest to highest: Field Bosses, Greater Enemy Bosses and finally Demigods and Legends.

Deathbird is in the lowest tier, Field Bosses, and is found outdoors near the Scenic Isle area in Liurnia of the Lakes. Like most lesser bosses in the game, this one is optional in the sense that you do not need to kill it in order to advance the main story.

If you think this boss looks familiar it’s because you’ve probably seen it before. This type of boss is used at several outdoors locations in the game, with little or no variations. At this point in the game, you will most likely have encountered it in Limgrave and the Weeping Peninsula.

The boss will spawn out of nowhere, immediately become hostile and descend from the sky when you get close enough, so there is no way to sneak up on it or get in a few cheap shots to start off the fight.

It resembles a large, undead skeletal chicken slash lizard mix with no meat on it. Perhaps it died by being roasted and eaten by some giant that looked exactly like me, that would at least explain it’s foul mood and bad attitude towards my little old self.

The bird holds what appears to be a cane in one of its hands or claws or whatever it is it has at the end of its arms. I usually associate the usage of canes with elderly gentlemen, but there is nothing gentle about this bird as it seems to mostly like to use the cane to whack people over the head. And since all the people in close proximity are me, I’m at the receiving end of a lot of whacking.

As most undeads, the Deathbird is critically weak to Holy damage, which I once again take advantage of by using the Sacred Blade Ash of War. It’s overall a fairly easy fight, just roll away from the cane whacking, get a few pokes and slashes in when an opportunity presents itself, and the grumpy bird will soon enough be ready for a second barbecue.
