Elden Ring: Erdtree Avatar (North-East Liurnia of the Lakes) Boss Fight

Erdtree Avatar is in the lowest tier of bosses in Elden Ring, Field Bosses, and is found outdoors near Minor Erdtree in North-East Liurnia of the Lakes. Like most lesser bosses in the game, this one is optional in the sense that you do not need to kill it in order to advance the main story.
As you probably know, bosses in Elden Ring are divided into three tiers. From lowest to highest: Field Bosses, Greater Enemy Bosses and finally Demigods and Legends.

If you think this boss looks familiar it’s probably because you have seen it before, as other Erdtree Avatars have set up camp near other Minor Erdtrees that you may have come across.
Specifically, I have previously fought the one on Weeping Peninsula and if you have watched that video, you will know that it ended up with a rather long – but also very fun – ranged combat fight.
This time, I decided on another approach, as I had recently gained access to summoning my new best friend, Banished Knight Engvall. Although I rarely use summoned help, I must admit that this guy can take a real beating and is an excellent buffer between angry bosses and my own tender flesh, so I think I’m going to make use of his help a lot more from now on.
I actually found the previous Erdtree Avatar to be quite difficult to melee, but Engvall makes it rather trivial as he’s quite good at keeping its attention. Obviously, just because something is trivial, it doesn’t mean that I can’t screw it up, so you will notice a few close calls in this video as well. But having Engvall there allows me to enter headless chicken mode without immediately being smashed with a huge hammer-like object, and I consider that a plus.
The boss itself has a few notable attacks to watch out for.
First, the huge hammer-like object I mentioned before. It has longer reach than you might expect and getting whacked over the head with it is quite painful, so watch out for that.
Second, the boss will sometimes lift itself up into the air and then erupt in an explosion after a few seconds. When you see that happening, it’s a good idea to be somewhere else and not within melee range of the boss.
Third, the boss will sometimes summon some floating lights that proceed to shoot what appears to be some sort of medieval laser beams at you. They hurt a lot, but if you keep running sideways, most of the beams should miss you.
Other than that, keep chipping away at the boss’s health and you will soon be able to claim glorious victory once again ;-)
