Elden Ring: Esgar, Priest of Blood (Leyndell Catacombs) Boss Fight

Esgar, Priest of Blood is in the lowest tier of bosses in Elden Ring, Field Bosses, and is found in the catacombs beneath Leyndell Royal Capital. As is the case with most lesser bosses in Elden Ring, this one is optional in the sense that you do not need to defeat it in order to progress the main story.

As you probably know, bosses in Elden Ring are divided into three tiers. From lowest to highest: Field Bosses, Greater Enemy Bosses and finally Demigods and Legends.

Esgar, Priest of Blood is in the lowest tier, Field Bosses, and is found in the catacombs beneath Leyndell Royal Capital. As is the case with most lesser bosses in Elden Ring, this one is optional in the sense that you do not need to defeat it in order to progress the main story.

This boss felt quite easy, but as you will notice, I didn’t beat him on the first attempt. That was exactly because he felt easy, so I got cocky and thought I could just ignore his companion dogs and focus him down. Unfortunately, I didn’t notice that both he and the dogs stack up Bleed really fast, so I died very suddenly and very bloodily.

Lesson learned, he went down pretty easily on the second attempt. I would suggest killing off the dogs first as they don’t have much health and stack up Bleed too.

And now for the usual boring details about my character. I play as a mostly Dexterity build. My melee weapon is the Guardian’s Swordspear with Keen affinity and Sacred Blade Ash of War. My shield is the Great Turtle Shell, which I mostly wear for the stamina recovery. I was level 133 when this video was recorded. I think I’m somewhat over-leveled for this content as the boss died really easily. I’m always looking for the sweet spot where it’s not mind-numbing easy mode, but also not so difficult that I will be stuck on the same boss for hours ;-)
