Elden Ring: Tree Sentinel Duo (Altus Plateau) Boss Fight

Tree Sentinels are in the lowest tier of bosses in Elden Ring, Field Bosses, and are found near the top of the large stairs leading to the capital city from Altus Plateau. Like most lesser bosses in the game, these are optional in the sense that you do not need to defeat them in order to advance the main story, but if you want to enter the capital from this direction, you will have to deal with them somehow.
As you probably know, bosses in Elden Ring are divided into three tiers. From lowest to highest: Field Bosses, Greater Enemy Bosses and finally Demigods and Legends.
Tree Sentinels are in the lowest tier, Field Bosses, and are found near the top of the large stairs leading to the capital city from Altus Plateau. You can probably remember the first Tree Sentinel in Limgrave. It was possibly the first actual enemy you saw in the game after getting owned by the Grafted Scion in the tutorial area. Back then, you may have thought to yourself that a golden knight would be friendly and there to help you as you get started in the game. But upon approaching it, you would soon have learned that everything that moves in this game wants you dead.
I was actually not prepared for these two patrolling near the top of the stairs. I knew they would be there, but I thought they would be behind a fog gate, so when the fight started, I thought it was just a couple of regular knights. That’s why the fight is already in progress when the video starts, I was busy summoning help, staying alive and keeping a lid on the impending headless chicken mode that so often grips me in these situations, that it took me a few seconds to get the recording started ;-)
Fortunately, I had just recently gained access to arguably one of the best tank spirits in the game, Ancient Dragon Knight Kristoff, so this was a great opportunity to see him in action. He was very good at keeping one of the bosses in check while I ran around getting pounded by the other one, until I happened to get a bit too close and then both of them were pounding my tender flesh. I actually have no idea how I managed to survive this fight, but I probably am somewhat over-leveled as has been the case all the way through Altus Plateau, although in this fight it didn’t feel so much like it.
And now for the usual boring details about my character: I play as a mostly Dexterity build. My melee weapon is the Guardian’s Swordspear with Keen affinity and Chilling Mist Ash of War. My shield is the Great Turtle Shell, which I mostly wear for the stamina recovery. I was level 113 when this video was recorded. I have found that to be way too high for most of Altus Plateau, but for this particular fight it seemed reasonable. I’m always looking for the sweet spot where it’s not mind-numbing easy mode, but also not so difficult that I will be stuck on the same boss for hours ;-)
Until next time, have fun and happy gaming!
