Putrid Avatar is in the lowest tier of bosses in Elden Ring, Field Bosses, and is found near the Minor Erdtree in the North-Western part of Caelid. Like most lesser bosses in the game, this one is optional in the sense that you do not need to kill it in order to advance the main story.
As you probably know, bosses in Elden Ring are divided into three tiers. From lowest to highest: Field Bosses, Greater Enemy Bosses and finally Demigods and Legends.
Putrid Avatar is in the lowest tier, Field Bosses, and is found near the Minor Erdtree in the North-Western part of Caelid. Like most lesser bosses in the game, this one is optional in the sense that you do not need to kill it in order to advance the main story.
The Putrid Avatar is really just a more disgusting version of the regular Erdtree Avatars that I have fought previously in the game. Like most things in Caelid, it will happily infect you with Scarlet Rot, which is pretty much a super-charged version of poison.
Not one to suffer infectious diseases if I can make someone else do it for me, I decided to once again call in my friend and minion Banished Knight Engvall to soak up the unpleasantries instead of myself. It worked out pretty well and resulted in what I believe is our fastest kill of an Avatar so far.
Apart from the Scarlet Rot, the Putrid Avatar appears to have the same skills and attack patterns as the regular Erdtree Avatars.
