Elden Ring: Death Rite Bird (Charo's Hidden Grave) Boss Fight (SOTE)

Published: January 22, 2026 at 9:32:08 PM UTC

Death Rite Bird is in the lowest tier of bosses in Elden Ring, Field Bosses, and is found in the Charo’s Hidden Grave area in the Land of Shadow. It is an optional boss in the sense that it is not required to defeat it in order to progress the main story of the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion.

As you probably know, bosses in Elden Ring are divided into three tiers. From lowest to highest: Field Bosses, Greater Enemy Bosses and finally Demigods and Legends.

Death Rite Bird is in the lowest tier, Field Bosses, and is found in the Charo’s Hidden Grave area in the Land of Shadow. It is an optional boss in the sense that it is not required to defeat it in order to progress the main story of the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion.

So once again it’s undead chicken fight time. And not just a regular undead chicken, the upgraded, magical kind, also known as a Death Rite Bird.

I’ve fought several of these before and by now I know that the best trick is to use Holy damage as they are critically weak to that, which is why you’ll see me switch back to my old and trusty swordspear with Sacred Blade, which I used for most of the base game. I feel like I’m generally having more fun with twin katanas, but I keep the swordspear handy for undead enemies.

Even though I just bragged about having killed several of these before and therefore having learned a thing or two about using Holy damage, I seem to never remember that shadow flame explosion they do, which is why you’ll get to enjoy an embarrassing moment of me running straight into it. A great example of confidence not being better than competence.

Also, it’s a good idea to make sure to clear out all of the lesser birds in the area before starting the boss fight, so you won’t have to deal with them in the middle of it all, like I did.

And now for the usual boring details about my character. I play as a mostly Dexterity build. My melee weapons are the Hand of Malenia and the Uchigatana with Keen affinity. I was level 202 and Scadutree Blessing 10 when this video was recorded, which I think is reasonable for this boss. I’m always looking for the sweet spot where it’s not mind-numbing easy mode, but also not so difficult that I will be stuck on the same boss for hours ;-)
