Elden Ring: Draconic Tree Sentinel (Capital Outskirts) Boss Fight

Draconic Tree Sentinel is in the lowest tier of bosses in Elden Ring, Field Bosses, and is found outdoors in the Capital Outskirts in Elden Ring, guarding the entrance to Leyndell Royal Capital. Like most lesser bosses in the game, this one is optional in the sense that you do not need to defeat it in order to advance the main story, but if you don’t defeat it, you will need to find another way to get into the city.
As you probably know, bosses in Elden Ring are divided into three tiers. From lowest to highest: Field Bosses, Greater Enemy Bosses and finally Demigods and Legends.

Fighting this boss almost felt like being back in Limgrave and engaging the first Tree Sentinel by mistake, thinking that such a fancy golden knight in the starting area must be there to help and protect you. Help you learn you place and realize that nothing in this game is there to protect you maybe.
I’m obviously a lot more skeptical about knights at this point no matter if they’re golden or not, but of course this isn’t just another Tree Sentinel, it’s a Draconic Tree Sentinel. Not only is he Draconic, but his horse appears to be Draconic as well, as it displays a very bad habit of shooting fireballs at random people. I have never seen regular horses do that, so something is definitely up with this one.
Apart from the fireball shooting, the knight himself also has a very nasty lightning attack that is quite capable of one-shotting you if you haven’t invested in enough Vigor. It’s fortunately telegraphed very well, you just need to roll in the instant he drops his shield. I found this particular attack much easier to avoid on foot than on horseback, which is why I decided to take him on foot after a few failed horseback attempts that were going well until he started spamming lightning.
And now for the usual boring details about my character. I play as a mostly Dexterity build. My melee weapon is the Guardian’s Swordspear with Keen affinity and Sacred Blade Ash of War. My ranged weapons are the Longbow and the Shortbow. My shield is the Great Turtle Shell, which I mostly wear for the stamina recovery. I was level 129 when this video was recorded. I think I’m a bit over-leveled for this content, but this particular boss felt reasonably challenging anyway. I’m always looking for the sweet spot where it’s not mind-numbing easy mode, but also not so difficult that I will be stuck on the same boss for hours ;-)
