Elden Ring: Lamenter (Lamenter's Gaol) Boss Fight (SOTE)

Lamenter is in the lowest tier of bosses in Elden Ring, Field Bosses, and is the end boss of the Lamenter’s Gaol dungeon in the Land of Shadow. It is an optional boss in the sense that it is not required to defeat it in order to progress the main story of the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion.
As you probably know, bosses in Elden Ring are divided into three tiers. From lowest to highest: Field Bosses, Greater Enemy Bosses and finally Demigods and Legends.
Lamenter is in the lowest tier, Field Bosses, and is the end boss of the Lamenter’s Gaol dungeon in the Land of Shadow. It is an optional boss in the sense that it is not required to defeat it in order to progress the main story of the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion.
This boss is a strange one that lives up to its name by sometimes crying and sobbing in the middle of combat. I don’t know what it is it’s so sorry about, but it could be that it’s because it’s harassing innocent cave explorers who are definitely not there to steal every piece of loot in sight. Doesn’t really matter, I’ll give it something to cry about just to make sure it’s not crying about nothing.
At first, the fight is a fairly straightforward melee encounter. The boss is bossing around, hitting people way too hard and just generally being annoying like most bosses are, but at some point, it disappears for a while, only to show up again with a bunch of replicas of itself. Annoyance multiplied. But that just means more of them to put to the sword and putting things to the sword is kinda what I do.
I’m not sure if there’s an easy way to tell which one is the real boss and which one is a replica, but my usual headless chicken strategy of running around randomly and swinging my katanas wildly at anything that moved seemed to work fairly well, as the replicas started to cry and then disappeared, making the true boss reveal itself after a while. I’m not really sure what all the replicas were crying about, I don’t think I managed to hit all of them, although not for lack of trying.
In addition to trying to hit people with what appears to be a large rock, the boss and its replicas will also shoot some sort of shadow-flamey magic bolt at the aforementioned innocent cave explorers, so watch out for that and try to be somewhere else when they start throwing those around.
I did call in my usual sidekick Black Knife Tiche for this fight, although I’m not sure if it was really needed as it didn’t feel particularly difficult. Still, in the phase with all the replicas, it’s nice with something to split the aggro and Tiche is quite good at making bosses angry.
And now for the usual boring details about my character. I play as a mostly Dexterity build. My melee weapons are the Hand of Malenia and the Uchigatana with Keen affinity. I was level 202 and Scadutree Blessing 11 when this video was recorded, which I think is reasonable for this boss. I’m always looking for the sweet spot where it’s not mind-numbing easy mode, but also not so difficult that I will be stuck on the same boss for hours ;-)
