Frenzied Duelist is in the lowest tier of bosses in Elden Ring, Field Bosses, and is the end boss of the Gaol Cave dungeon in Caelid. Like most lesser bosses in the game, this one is optional in the sense that you do not need to kill it in order to advance the main story.
As you probably know, bosses in Elden Ring are divided into three tiers. From lowest to highest: Field Bosses, Greater Enemy Bosses and finally Demigods and Legends.
Frenzied Duelist is in the lowest tier, Field Bosses, and is the end boss of the Gaol Cave dungeon in Caelid. Like most lesser bosses in the game, this one is optional in the sense that you do not need to kill it in order to advance the main story.
If you’re having trouble finding this boss in the dungeon, try smashing some wooden boards in the corner of the last room and you will find a small corridor. You will then have to jump down a series of platforms to get to the room where you get to fight the boss.
This boss is a gladiator-type enemy who wields a very large axe that he sure likes to hit people over the head with. He also has a very long chain that he uses to grab people and pull them closer for more axe-to-the-head action, so that’s something to watch out for as axe-to-head action is only fun for the person holding the axe, but in this case I’m the person with the head the axe makes contact with, which is much less amusing.
He hits very hard so I kind of missed Banished Knight Engvall to soak up some of the damage, but he’s still in bad standing over getting himself killed and leaving me to fend for myself during another boss encounter, so I decided to handle this one on my own and take whatever beating would come my way. And a big one did.
No matter, I prevailed in the end, and I overall found this to be a pretty fun fight with a good pace to it, it really felt much like a duel, as the boss’s name implies ;-)
