Elden Ring: Tree Sentinel (First) (Hinterland) Boss Fight (SOTE)

Tree Sentinel is in the lowest tier of bosses in Elden Ring, Field Bosses, and is found in the Hinterland area. It is an optional boss in the sense that it does not need to be defeated in order to progress the main story of the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion.

As you probably know, bosses in Elden Ring are divided into three tiers. From lowest to highest: Field Bosses, Greater Enemy Bosses and finally Demigods and Legends.

Tree Sentinel is in the lowest tier, Field Bosses, and is found in the Hinterland area. It is an optional boss in the sense that it does not need to be defeated in order to progress the main story of the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion.

After finding the hidden doorway to the Hinterland area and starting a new and exciting journey there, I immediately came across a Tree Sentinel boss riding around, looking all high and mighty and golden on his horse.

As I still haven’t forgiven the many many times the first Tree Sentinel back in Limgrave chased me and killed me, I have a special hatred for this boss type. I decided to return the favor, mount up and fight it on horseback myself, like some sort of shady-looking knight who’s really not very good at riding a horse.

It didn’t take more than a few seconds before the boss hit me so hard that my horse died though, so I was back on my two feet swinging my two swords wildly. Well, that works better anyway, controlling a horse and fighting at the same time is just more than my limited multitasking abilities can handle.

This boss feels exactly like the previous Tree Sentinel bosses in the game, except I assume it’s higher level and therefore obviously more annoying because it takes longer to kill and inflicts more bruises on my tender flesh.

But the real annoyance comes after you kill the boss only to realize… that there’s another Tree Sentinel riding just a little bit further down the road. In fact, it’s so close to the first one that someone unlucky could easily have to deal with both of them at once. I’m usually the unlucky one, but in this case I somehow managed to dispose of the first Tree Sentinel without angering the second, which is probably a good thing with the aforementioned lack of multitasking ability in mind.

And now for the usual boring details about my character. I play as a mostly Dexterity build. My melee weapons are the Rivers of Blood and the Uchigatana with Keen affinity. I was level 212 and Scadutree Blessing 15 when this video was recorded, which I think is reasonable for this boss. I’m always looking for the sweet spot where it’s not mind-numbing easy mode, but also not so difficult that I will be stuck on the same boss for hours ;-)
