Godfrey, First Elden Lord is in the middle tier of bosses in Elden Ring, Greater Enemy Bosses, and is found in Leyndell, Royal Capital after climbing up some large tree branches. This is a mandatory boss that must be defeated in order to progress the game further.

As you probably know, bosses in Elden Ring are divided into three tiers. From lowest to highest: Field Bosses, Greater Enemy Bosses and finally Demigods and Legends.

Godfrey First Elden Lord is in the middle tier, Greater Enemy Bosses, and is found in Leyndell Royal Capital after climbing up some large tree branches. This is a mandatory boss that must be defeated in order to progress the game further.

I didn’t find this boss particularly difficult, but I did get caught a bit by surprise because he’s initially not behind a fog gate, so I wasn’t really prepared for a boss fight. That explains the pretty drop of runes that I have to pick up, but I did manage to get him on my second attempt.

Fighting him feels a little bit like fighting a Crucible Knight in the sense that he’s a large and aggressive melee warrior and that he has some of the same attack patterns, but he didn’t feel nearly as relentless, nor does he have quite as many dirty tricks up his sleeve. Being a mandatory boss, I guess they didn’t want to make him too difficult to stop people from progressing past him.

He does hit quite hard, but once you figure out the pattern to it, it’s not too difficult to avoid, so you will soon put him in his place and teach him who the real main character is.

And now for the usual boring details about my character. I play as a mostly Dexterity build. My melee weapon is the Guardian’s Swordspear with Keen affinity and Sacred Blade Ash of War. My shield is the Great Turtle Shell, which I mostly wear for the stamina recovery. I was level 131 when this video was recorded. I think I’m a bit over-leveled for this content, as he didn’t feel as challenging as I would expect from a Greater Enemy Boss. I’m always looking for the sweet spot where it’s not mind-numbing easy mode, but also not so difficult that I will be stuck on the same boss for hours ;-)
