Elden Ring: Great Wyrm Theodorix (Consecrated Snowfield) Boss Fight

Great Wyrm Theodorix is in the middle tier of bosses in Elden Ring, Greater Enemy Bosses, and is found outdoors in the Consecrated Snowfield, near the Eastern end of the frozen river. Like most lesser bosses in the game, defeating this one is optional in the sense that it is not required in order to progress the main story.
As you probably know, bosses in Elden Ring are divided into three tiers. From lowest to highest: Field Bosses, Greater Enemy Bosses and finally Demigods and Legends.

I have killed a few other Magma Wyrms in my time, but this particular specimen proved to be quite a handful. It’s large, grumpy, hits insanely hard, and spews lava out in large pools that roast one’s tender flesh. In addition to that, it has a rather large health pool, so it takes a while to kill.
Even using spirit ashes on this boss doesn’t make a huge difference. It killed off both Black Knife Tiche and Ancient Dragon Knight Kristoff on a couple of previous attempts, and they are usually both pretty good at staying alive.
The main things to watch out for in the fight are its spinning sword attacks that covers a large area, but can be avoided by staying close to it, and its horizontal downwards sword slam, that would kill me instantly and requires some distance or well-timed rolling to avoid. The huge pools of lava it spawns on ground can make it difficult to stay mobile without taking damage, so all in all there is a lot going on here. I’m actually amazed that I didn’t go into full-on headless chicken mode.
In the end what worked for me was to summon Tiche and then focus hard on keeping myself alive, while using Bolt of Gransax to nuke the boss from range, so it would spend some time running around instead of pounding on either of us constantly. It still managed to kill Tiche with one of its spinning sword attacks, but fortunately it had so little health left that I could finish it off. I actually think that I managed to drag it too far away from its spawn point, as it seemed to de-aggro and started walking back, allowing me to attack it from behind.
Sorry about the guest appearance in the end there, one of the nearby land octopuses decided to join the fun just as I was finishing off the boss. I cut it out of the video, but worry not, it was swiftly put to the swordspear.
And now for the usual boring details about my character. I play as a mostly Dexterity build. My melee weapon is the Guardian’s Swordspear with Keen affinity and Thunderbolt Ash of War. For this fight, I mostly used Bolt of Gransax for some long-range nuking though. My shield is the Great Turtle Shell, which I mostly wear for the stamina recovery. I was level 157 when this video was recorded, which I think is a bit high for this content, but it was still a reasonably challenging fight. I’m always looking for the sweet spot where it’s not mind-numbing easy mode, but also not so difficult that I will be stuck on the same boss for hours ;-)
