Elden Ring: Crucible Knight Ordovis (Auriza Hero's Grave) Boss Fight

Crucible Knight Ordovis is in the lowest tier of bosses in Elden Ring, Field Bosses, and is the end boss of the Auriza Hero’s Grave dungeon, which is located in the Capital Outskirts in Elden Ring. Like most lesser bosses in the game, this one is optional in the sense that you do not need to defeat it in order to advance the main story.

As you probably know, bosses in Elden Ring are divided into three tiers. From lowest to highest: Field Bosses, Greater Enemy Bosses and finally Demigods and Legends.

Crucible Knight Ordovis is in the lowest tier, Field Bosses, and is the end boss of the Auriza Hero’s Grave dungeon, which is located in the Capital Outskirts in Elden Ring. Like most lesser bosses in the game, this one is optional in the sense that you do not need to defeat it in order to advance the main story.

These Hero’s Grave type dungeons are always annoying with the huge chariots constantly trying to run you over, but this one felt longer and more challenging than most. Especially the part where I had to do a very precise jump while a chariot was rolling toward me at high speed was a bit stressful. And the basilisks and their stupid Death Blight. And more chariots. Overall, not my favorite dungeon so far.

Anyway, if you have watched some of my previous videos featuring Crucible Knights, you will know that they are among my least favorite enemies in this game. Especially the variants using shields tend to be long and stressful fights for me.

When I walked through the fog gate and discovered that it was not just a single named Crucible Knight, but a named Crucible Knight with an extra Crucible Knight for backup, the decision to call in some backup of my own in the form of Black Knife Tiche was very easy for me. I’m a tiny little Tarnished, I’m not going up against two huge bruting knights alone if I can avoid it!

The boss itself is of the sword and shield variety, which I generally consider the most challenging, whereas the additional Crucible Knight only wields a spear and is significantly easier to lay some damage on in my experience, so I decided to try to let Tiche keep the boss busy while I focused on disposing of his annoying little helper.

Tiche is great at many things, but holding aggro is not one of them, so of course I found myself at the pointy end of the boss’s sword a few times while also having to try to avoid getting poked by a huge spear from his friend, but overall, it seemed to work fairly well and took a lot of stress out of the fight, so I won’t fire Tiche for allowing my own tender flesh to get a beating this time. If it had been Engvall, he would never had heard the end of it though. Lucky for him that he’s currently enjoying retirement for as long as I’ll allow it.

When the extra knight eventually died, it was a fairly simple matter of teaming up against the boss and finishing him off. Funny how that tactic appeared to be exactly what he had planned to use on me. That’s the kind of switcharoo I like. Turns out that these Crucible Knights are significantly easier to backstab if someone else is keeping their attention, big fat surprise.

And now for the usual boring details about my character. I play as a mostly Dexterity build. My melee weapon is the Guardian’s Swordspear with Keen affinity and Sacred Blade Ash of War. My ranged weapons are the Longbow and the Shortbow. My shield is the Great Turtle Shell, which I mostly wear for the stamina recovery. I was level 129 when this video was recorded. I think I’m probably a bit over-leveled for this content, but this dungeon and the boss fight felt reasonably challenging anyway. I’m always looking for the sweet spot where it’s not mind-numbing easy mode, but also not so difficult that I will be stuck on the same boss for hours ;-)
