Elden Ring: Magma Wyrm Makar (Ruin-Strewn Precipice) Boss Fight

Magma Wyrm Makar is in the middle tier of bosses in Elden Ring, Greater Enemy Bosses, and is the end boss of the Ruin-Strewn Precipice area in Northern Liurnia of the Lakes. Like most lesser bosses in the game, this one is optional in the sense that you do not need to kill it in order to advance the main story, but doing so opens an alternative path to Altus Plateau, so you don’t need to go through the Great Lift of Dectus to get there.
As you probably know, bosses in Elden Ring are divided into three tiers. From lowest to highest: Field Bosses, Greater Enemy Bosses and finally Demigods and Legends.

This boss resembles a very large lizard. Or perhaps it’s a very small dragon. In addition to breathing fire, it wields a sword and I haven’t seen a dragon do that though. Well, whatever it is, it will come charging at you, breathe fire, swing at you with its sword, and possibly try to use its entire body to squish you against the floor, so overall, the thing is highly annoying and would be much improved by death.
I got to it fairly late at night near the end of my gaming session and I was in no mood for grumpy fire-breathing lizards reluctant to die, so I decided to call in my good old pal, Banished Knight Engvall, for some support. I must admit that that guy makes most boss encounters a lot less stressful, but also sometimes a bit boring. Still, it would be silly to not make use of all available tools. Not that I’m calling Engvall a tool, I’m sure he’s a very nice guy and that he was banished due to no fault of his own. Right.
Even with Engvall there to take the hits for me, you will notice me being very close to death a few times. I have no problem screwing up easy encounters as well as the hard ones, and especially the full-on body slam from the boss got to me a few times.
After the boss is dead, you may be able to find an invasion symbol for one of the targets of Patches’ quest line in the room. Being a Dark Souls veteran who has put up with large piles of crap from Patches in the past, I killed him when I had the chance, so I don’t have that quest. I do have a fond memory of life fading from Patches’ eyes though, and that’s worth a lot ;-)
