Elden Ring: Night's Cavalry (Forbidden Lands) Boss Fight

Night’s Cavalry is in the lowest tier of bosses in Elden Ring, Field Bosses, and can be found outdoors patrolling the main road in the Forbidden Lands, but only at night. Like most lesser bosses in the game, this one is optional and does not need to be defeated in order to progress the main story.
As you probably know, bosses in Elden Ring are divided into three tiers. From lowest to highest: Field Bosses, Greater Enemy Bosses and finally Demigods and Legends.

Another land, another lonely road at night, another Night’s Cavalry to ruin your quiet time.
If it wasn’t because I have developed such an excellent strategy for defeating these Night’s Cavalry guys, I would be getting sick and tired of them by now but considering the pure and unbridled genius of my approach, I was actually happy to see this enemy up ahead in the fog. The atmosphere of the Forbidden Lands also makes this feel very Sleepy Hollow like, except that the rider is not headless. Well, not until I’m done with him at least.
So, what is this genius strategy?
Well, for someone like me who is usually very fond of animals, it’s quite controversial as it involves killing the horse first. But by doing that, you force the knight to go melee, which makes him a lot less mobile. You need to stay very close to him, or he will just summon another horse though. Which, as it happens, makes me feel a lot less sorry for killing the horse to begin with.
Okay, I will once again admit that this is not so much a genius strategy as it is a case of me having very poor aim, flailing my weapon around wildly, and just happening to hit the horse more often than the rider, but the results speak for themselves. And it does have the advantage of providing an opportunity for a juicy critical hit on the knight while he’s on the ground, which I managed to take advantage of this time. Hugely satisfying and once again confirms who the main character is.
And now for the usual boring details about my character. I play as a mostly Dexterity build. My melee weapon is the Guardian’s Swordspear with Keen affinity and Sacred Blade Ash of War. My shield is the Great Turtle Shell, which I mostly wear for the stamina recovery. I was level 137 when this video was recorded, which I think is a bit high, but it’s the level I’ve gotten to organically at this point in the game. I’m always looking for the sweet spot where it’s not mind-numbing easy mode, but also not so difficult that I will be stuck on the same boss for hours ;-)
