Mimic Tear is in the middle tier of bosses in Elden Ring, Greater Enemy Bosses, and is found in Nokron, Eternal City. Like most lesser bosses in the game, this one is optional in the sense that you do not need to kill it in order to advance the main story.
As you probably know, bosses in Elden Ring are divided into three tiers. From lowest to highest: Field Bosses, Greater Enemy Bosses and finally Demigods and Legends.
Mimic Tear is in the middle tier, Greater Enemy Bosses, and is found in Nokron, Eternal City. Like most lesser bosses in the game, this one is optional in the sense that you do not need to kill it in order to advance the main story.
The Mimic Tear is a special type of Silver Tear that will mirror whoever it is fighting, so it is basically going to be a fight against a copy of yourself. Because of that, it doesn’t really make a lot of sense going into a lot of details on what the boss does, as it will highly depend on your own build and equipment, which will most likely be different than mine.
It's an interesting fight to be matched against yourself, and considering you can find the Mimic Tear Spirit Ashes not far from this boss, I thought it was nice to see how tough it would really be in battle. Turns out, not very. I actually found this to be one of the easier boss fights. You could say that’s because my character sucks, but it’s the same character I beat it with, so that can’t be it. I don’t know how good the AI in the game is to control different builds, but it didn’t seem very effective with mine.
I doubt I’ll be using the Mimic Tear Spirit Ashes when I obtain it, as it seems better to have a different type of character than two of the same. In classic party-based role playing games, you wouldn’t fill a party with several of the same class either. So good old Engvall has some job security for a while longer ;-)
I play as a mostly Dexterity build. My melee weapon is the Guardian’s Swordspear with Keen affinity and Sacred Blade Ash of War. My ranged weapons are Longbow and Shortbow. I was rune level 82 when this video was recorded. I’m not really sure if that is generally considered appropriate, but the difficulty of the game seems reasonable to me – I want the sweet spot that isn’t mind-numbing easy-mode, but also not so difficult that I’ll be stuck on the same boss for hours, as I don’t find that fun at all.
