Elden Ring: Morgott, the Omen King (Leyndell, Royal Capital) Boss Fight

Morgott, the Omen King is in the highest tier of bosses in Elden Ring, Demigods, and is found at the Elden Throne, suspiciously close to the Queen’s Bedchamber in Leyndell, Royal Capital. This boss is mandatory and must be defeated in order to progress the main story of the game.
As you probably know, bosses in Elden Ring are divided into three tiers. From lowest to highest: Field Bosses, Greater Enemy Bosses and finally Demigods and Legends.

Considering the troubles I had getting past Margit the Fell Omen back when I met him on my way into Stormveil Castle, I anticipated a difficult fight against Morgott, who is supposedly a tougher version of Margit, being the king of omens and what not.
Maybe I’m over-leveled now, maybe I’m better at the game, or maybe Morgott just had a bad day, because it didn’t feel more difficult, quite the opposite in fact. I actually found it to be a really fun fight against a boss where it felt like I had a chance to anticipate his moves and react appropriately.
He has several long-range attacks and can close distances with his jumping attacks really quickly, similarly to Margit, but most of them are telegraphed well and can be avoided by just never standing still. Especially his spirit spear attacks are ridiculously delayed and it will take some practice to get the roll timing just right, but at least you can see them coming.
At 50% health, he will do an explosion that I would advise you to stay clear of, and after that he seems to be faster and more aggressive. I don’t think he actually gains new abilities, but he certainly becomes a lot more dangerous.
I was really close to killing him on a couple of attempts – even on the first one, where one more hit from me would have finished the fight in my favor – but I always seemed to die just when he was very close to dying as well.
Therefore, I decided to go for a less risky approach in phase two. On my recent clear of the capital city, I happened to come across the Bolt of Gransax, which is technically classified as a spear, but should probably be considered a railgun instead because of its unique weapon art, which is a highly damaging and very long-range lightning attack.
It takes a while to wind up, but it really packs a punch and travels so fast that even enemies who tend to dodge arrows have a hard time not getting hit by this. I had been wanting to test it out on a major enemy, so Morgott actually came in quite handy.
So basically, in phase two I would just focus on avoiding his most dangerous attacks and then keep my distance while waiting for an opportunity to nuke. I suppose I could also have called in my good friend Tiche for back-up, but I was actually having so much fun in this fight that I wanted to finish it by myself. Well, myself with a legendary lightning-shooting spear, but considering all the crap Morgott threw my way, I think that’s only fair.
And now for the usual boring details about my character. I play as a mostly Dexterity build. My main melee weapon is the Guardian’s Swordspear with Keen affinity and Sacred Blade Ash of War. For this fight, I also used the Bolt of Gransax for some long-range nuking goodness. My shield is the Great Turtle Shell, which I mostly wear for the stamina recovery. I was level 134 when this video was recorded. I think I’m somewhat over-leveled for this content as the boss felt just a tad easy for a Demigod, but was still a fun fight. I’m always looking for the sweet spot where it’s not mind-numbing easy mode, but also not so difficult that I will be stuck on the same boss for hours ;-)
